IQ showcases art from students and teachers.

Title: Spiritual Island.

Medium: Acrylic.

Artist: Susan Kiernan.

Kiernan loves her paintings to tell a story and she was inspired to create this piece after a holiday with her husband Colm to Brampton Island, Queensland, a place she feels has an incredible spiritual quality.

"We met a family who had a disabled child," she said.

"It felt like a holy place and so I made this god-like figure, and the island had a lot of natural beauty so that's why I used vibrant yellows and blues."

Kiernan is a former high school teacher who "used to do a bit of doodling" and took up art seriously a couple of years ago. She completed Certificate I at TAFE and is doing Certificate III in fine arts at TAFE this year and is looking forward to exhibiting her work.

"I would like to be able to show my work and give people something to look at and something to think about," she said.
